What is Trauma-Informed Care?
Trauma-informed care is an evidence-based approach that recognizes the significant impact that trauma has an individuals life, including their substance use, mental health disorders, and recovery. Our trauma-informed approach looks at treatment through the scope of lived-trauma through an individuals perspective with the aim to avoid re-traumatization and promote healing.
Some key principles we incorporate into our programming includes:
- Safety: Ensuring physical and emotional safety, we believe that healing can only happen when an individual feels safe enough to let down their walls.
- Trustworthiness and Transparency: We build trust with our clients, operating in a way that allows them to make decisions with transparency.
- Collaboration and Mutuality: We believe that recovery is a collaborative process, placing our staff and our clients as partners in the recovery process.
- Empowerment, Voice, and Choice: We believe that recognizing and building off of our clients strengths and relationships, can help in the recovery process, ensuring their voice is heard.
- Cultural, and Gender Issues: We acknowledge the cultural background and demographic of individuals, and adapt to fit their specific needs.
