The Street Drug Flakka

Flakka Street Drug: Everything you need to know

Like other synthetic drugs, Flakka is a highly addictive and potentially dangerous designer drug. Flakka is primarily manufactured in China, however in the last decade it has made its way to the United States of America. Flocka can cause paranoia and psychosis. This drug has been linked to some gruesome incidents in the past. Furthermore, the Flocka drug is closely related to bath salts.

What is Flakka?

Flakka is a designer drug, the pharmaceutical name for Flakka is a-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone. It is also known as a-PVP where alpha- PVP.  Flakka has similar stimulant effects to cocaine or Methamphetamine. The drug can give a person extreme feelings of euphoria. As a result, the flock of drugs has been used as a party drug. However, in high doses, the drug can cause irrational and even dangerous behavior.

Flakka has a similar appearance to gravel. It can come in a crystal form in either pink or white. Furthermore, Flakka has a strong odor. Flakka can cause users to feel invincible while using the drug.  In addition, Flakka can cause feelings of paranoia and agitation. There have been cases of violent outbreaks caused by Flakka in the U.S.

In some cases, the effects of Flakka are more intense than traditional stimulants like methamphetamine. This is because of the drug’s chemical composition. Flakka has a similar chemical composition to bath salts. As a result, the drug can have deadly side effects.

How is Flakka Used?

Flocka can be ingested in a few different ways.  Here are a few different ways Flakka can be ingested:

  • Smoke
  • Vaporizing
  • Injection
  • Eating
  • Sniffing or snorting

Many people who use Flakka will use a vaporizer to ingest the drug.  This method allows the drug to be absorbed quickly into the body. Also, this method is more dangerous because it leads to quick intoxication. The result can be negative side effects and even overdose. The drug’s effects can last for three or four hours.  However, side effects from the Flakka drug can last for days.

What Are the Side Effects of Flakka?

Flakka can have dangerous side effects. These side effects are caused by the way Flakka interacts with the brain’s dopamine levels. As a result, there is increased activity in certain parts of the brain which are usually associated with pleasure and reward. Flakka and cocaine are similar in that they both negatively affect the brain’s dopamine levels. Users will have to use more and more of the drug to have the same euphoric effect over time.

Moreover, the more of the Drug they use, the more of the drug they will need to feel normal. When users are not using the drug the sober state will feel painful. This is because users are used to the extreme euphoric feeling of being under the influence of Flakka. This is why Flakka can be dangerous and highly addictive.

In addition, Flakka is a synthetic version of Methamphetamine (which causes harm to the inside of the heart). As a result, Flakka causes long-term damage to the heart, liver, and kidneys

Here are a few side effects of Flakka:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Extreme Paranoia
  • Panic Attacks
  • Dehydration
  • Difficulties Breathing

People who abuse Flakka often experience an extreme rise in body temperature. As a result, Flakka can raise the body’s temperature to up to 106° Fahrenheit. As a result, the brain and cardiovascular system can suffer damage. In addition, homicide and suicide have also been linked to Flakka. Users who abuse Flakka can become extremely aggressive and violent,  much like those who use bath salts.

Furthermore, the drug can cause heart attacks due to its stimulant nature. Flakka can also damage a person’s liver and kidneys. Also, the destruction of neurons can cause a person to overdose on the drug.

Is it Possible to Overdose on Flakka?

In short, yes it is possible to overdose on the Flakka drug. For example, between September 2014 and December 2015,  there were 60 deaths reported caused by Flakka. Further, there are some specific symptoms that may be a sign a person is overdosing from Flakka.  Here are some of those symptoms:

Is Flakka Different From Other Synthetic Drugs

Flakka is similar to other synthetic drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine.  However, there are some key ways in which Flakka differs from those drugs. One Way Flakka differs from cocaine and meth is that it is much cheaper than these drugs. As a result, the Flakka drug is much more accessible to those who may be addicted.  Additionally, because of the relatively inexpensive cost, Flakka is very accessible for teens and adolescents.

Flakka is also more potent than cocaine and meth. Therefore,  users can experience more dangerous side effects than they would if they were using cocaine or meth.  Lastly, the half-life of Flakka is much shorter than its other synthetic counterparts. In other words, Flakka’s effects on the brain are much more intense and don’t last very long. Undoubtedly, this combination makes Flakka very addictive.

Treatment Options for Flakka Addictions

While being highly addictive, flakka addiction is treatable. A key part of the treatment process includes a drug detox. A drug detox is when the body is cleansed of all the drugs and toxins before a person enters an alcohol or drug addiction program. Without a doubt, a medically supervised detox is the best way to go about detoxing. Medical detox allows a person going through treatment to have support and supervision 24/7.

In addition, medical detox helps to curb withdrawal symptoms associated with getting clean and sober. It should be noted that in a medically supervised detox program, clients can comfortably cleanse their bodies and mind from drugs and toxins.

After detoxing clients will then be put on a customized treatment program. This customized treatment will include therapy. Therapy can come in the following forms:
